PROJECT PROFILE
Pebble Lake Golf Club is a semi-private 18-hole golf course which operates on land owned by the City of Fergus Falls. The course is a typical parkland-style routing with tree lined fairways, relatively shallow bunkers and small undulated greens. Although the course has a new irrigation system, over time course conditions have deteriorated as membership and revenue has declined. In 2011, Herfort Norby was retained to prepare a long-range master plan for future improvements. In keeping with the parkland-style character, the bunkers were redesigned with fl at sand and grass faces with a classic style reminiscent of courses built around the turn of the century.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The first phase of improvements were completed in the spring of 2012 and included the redesign of the existing par 3 No. 2. A number of trees were removed to improve turf quality and the tees were repositioned and reconstructed to increase the amount of teeing area and to provide a variety of angles of approach. The greenside bunker was repositioned to improve maintenance and to provide more of a challenge from the back tee while making the green more approachable from the forward tees.
