Golf Course Practice Range Renovation
PROJECT PROFILE
The Minikahda Club is one of Minnesota’s oldest and most prestigious
golf courses. The course was originally designed by Willie Watson,
who also designed Interlachen Country Club, and Robert Foulis. The
course has since undergone numerous renovations including work by
Thomas Bendelow and Donald Ross. Improvements have included
repositioning of greens, lengthening of holes and, more recently, the
extensive removal of trees and complete the reconstruction of over 100 sand bunkers.
The existing rangewas too narrow, too short and had insufficient teeing area. Recommendations included incorporating the reconstruction of the
existing tennis course area and parking lot in order to balance soil requirements, address Minnehaha Creek Watershed requirements and to minimize construction costs. The new range includes a 40,000 square foot practice tee, artificial turf teeing area, target greens, new state of the art irrigation system, short game practice facility and two practice sand bunkers.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Herfort Norby was responsible for all aspects of
the project including preparation of detailed plans,
watershed and City permitting, bidding, contractor
selection and construction administration.
