New Golf Course Construction

GENERAL INFORMATION
Greystone Golf Club was developed and owned by the Heinen family of Sauk Centre, Minnesota. The course was designed on a 220 acre site consisting of 170 acres of agricultural land and 50 acres of wooded shoreline and oak forest adjacent to Sauk Lake. Nearly 1 million yards of soil were moved to create the rolling topography and the 11 acres of ponds that exist today. Concave fairways and extensive use of native grasses define landing areas and help to create the “links” character which defines the course. The course was designed in collaboration with PGA Tour professional Tom Lehman, a native of nearby Alexandria. Each hole has up to five sets of tees and plays from 5,395 yards to 7,059 yards.

PROJECT PROFILE
Herfort Norby was responsible for designing and managing all aspects of the project including wetland delineation, course routing, permit acquisition, solicitation of bids and contract administration. In addition, Herfort Norby was responsible for design of the tee and entry signage as well as preparation of an overall site landscape plan which complimented the native plantings through the elaborate use of Rudbeckia, Liatris, Achillea and non-native ornamental grasses. Construction began in September of 1998 and was completed in September of 1999. The course opened for play in June 2000.
