ACCESSIBLE 32-HOLE GOLF COURSE RENOVATION
General Information
The City of Sioux Falls owns three golf courses which, until 2016, were managed by Dakota Golf Management. Its flagship course, Elmwood Golf Course, is a 27-hole parkland-style golf course with tree lined fairways, domed greens and smaller more classic-style bunkering. The facility also includes a par 3 course used primarily for the City’s youth program. In 2010, Herfort Norby was hired by the City of Sioux Falls and Dakota Golf Management to design and oversee the construction of the entire facililty.
The project included the complete reconstruction and re-grassing of all tees, greens and fairways, new irrigation, new cart paths and new maintenance facilities as well as the expansion and relocation of the driving range and the redesign of the five hole par 3 Junior Course. The project also included adjustments to accommodate the expansion of the Sioux Falls Regional Airport runway and the adjacent Russell Street reconstruction. The entire facility was designed to meet American Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements for golf courses.
Project Schedule & Budget
The 5.5 million dollar project was jointly funded by the City of Sioux Falls and the Federal Aviation Administration. In order to minimize loss of revenue and insure that 18-holes remained open for play at all times, the project was completed in 3 phases with nine holes being renovated each year.
Project Completion:
Phase 1 completed in June 2014. Phase 2 completed in June 2015. Phase 3 completed in October 2016.
